Deputies of the 14th National Assembly on October 23 elected Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as the State President for the 2016-2021 tenure during their on-going sixth session in Hanoi.
All members of the 12th Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee have agreed to introduce General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as a candidate for the post of President, to be elected in the 14th National Assembly's sixth session.
The Party Central Committee (PCC) elected two additional members, namely Tran Cam Tu and Tran Thanh Man, to the Secretariat on May 9, during the third day of its 7th plenum.
