After a long time of no African swine fever outbreaks, in the past two months, the disease has suddenly appeared and spread widely in Ninh Binh province, causing more difficulties for pig breeders as the price of live hogs has been sharply decreasing. If local authorities do not take drastic measures, the disease will continue to spread widely, thus wiping out the province's outcomes in recovering hog herds in the recent time.

According to the latest report of Ninh Binh Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Authorities, no African Swine fever disease outbreak in 100% of communes and wards in the province for 40 past days.

After the first pigs detected with African swine fever (ASF) at a household in the Ninh Khang commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh on March. Now, ASF is spreading 7 out of 8 districts in the province.

Deputy Minister of Trade and Commerce Dang Hoang An had a working session on March 19 with Ninh Binh authority to discuss way to tackle African swine fever.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) have said they are willing to help Vietnam deal with the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).
