A world-wide conference of Vietnamese entrepreneurs, the first conference of its kind, was held in Moscow, Russia on November 11, attracting the participation of more than 150 Vietnamese entrepreneurs from across the world.
The event was jointly held by the State Committee of Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, the Association of Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs, and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and was the first event among a series of trade events to take place in Russia in November to promote products and operations of Vietnamese enterprises.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Nguyen Thanh Son said the Vietnamese Embassy would create all favourable conditions to connect Vietnamese entrepreneurs world-wide to build a strong Vietnamese business community, as well as boosting Vietnamese products in Russia and in the world.
He added that the conference was also a chance for Vietnamese enterprises world-wide to take advantage of signed and soon to be signed free trade agreements (FTA) including the Vietnam-Republic of Korea FTA, Vietnam-the Eurasia Economic Union FTA, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership among others.
Overseas Vietnamese enterprises have invested in 5% of the total number of foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam, which accounted for 3.8% of the total value of FDI projects in Vietnam.
About 5.2 million Vietnamese people are living abroad with the younger generation achieving considerable success in many areas, actively contributing to Vietnam's economic development. Each year, they send tens of billions of US dollars to Vietnam with an estimated remittance of US$13 billion in 2015.
