The VFA reported that the quantity met the preset target but remained low.
Rice was chiefly shipped to the Philippines by contracts. Meanwhile, the volume sold to the Chinese and African markets declined.
Rice export fell by 24.11% in comparison with the same period last year. Free-on-board value decreased by 30.52% and cost, insurance and freight (CIF) price plunged by 16.46%.
According to VFA, Viet Nam's rice export went down in January due to the sharp decline of centralized procurement contracts from traditional markets of the Philippines, China and Africa.
Meanwhile, in January, the country's rice export prices remained stable. Specifically, 5% broken rice was sold at US$ 405-410 per ton, equivalent to that of Indian rice but higher than those of Thai and Pakistani rice due to limited supply from these exporters.
VFA quoted local experts as saying that they are expecting positive signals for Vietnamese rice export in the coming time./.
