Of the figure, 4.650 million people were holiday-makers, up 12.2%, and 1.267 million others went on business, up 8.7%.
Vietnam attracted 5.980 million visitors travelling by air (up 7.2%), 193,000 by sea (down 32.2%), and 1.399 million by land (up 41.9%).
The number of Russian and Chinese visitors rose 70% and 33% compared to last year's corresponding figures, while those from the US, Canada, Germany, France, and Taiwan fell considerably.
Vietnam aims to receive 8 million foreign arrivals and serve 40 million domestic holidaymakers in 2014, with total revenue estimated at US$10.5 billion.
