Vietnam, India up cooperation in textile industry

Addressing the Vietnam-India business meeting of the cotton and textile industry in Ho Chi Minh City on February 18, Manikam Ramaswami added that the market share of Indian cotton in Vietnam accounted for 16.5 percent last year, a far cry from the average level in other markets.

As a result, a 20-member business delegation is visiting to Vietnam to seek cooperation opportunities in the industry, according to Texprocil's President.

In 2013, Vietnam exported garments and fibres valued at over 77 million USD to India, a year-on-year increase of 38 percent. It imported 419 million USD worth of garment materials from the south Asian country, up 46 percent, said Vo Tan Thanh, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)'s HCM City branch.

The meeting was co-organised by the VCCI-HCM City branch, Texprocil and Pdexcil under the auspice of the Indian Consulate General in HCM City.

As part of their visit, the Indian business delegation will make fact-finding tours in HCM City and its neighbouring localities.
