Vietnam crush Syria in AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers

Making the most of home-field advantage, Vietnam played a superb match against the visiting team, Syria.

The host team led with an 8-0 score in the first 45 minutes before netting three more in the second half to settle for a convincing 11-0 victory.

All the players in Vietnam's attack line managed to score, with a hat-trick by Nguyen Thi Nguyen (1', 17', 45'+); three doubles by Pham Hai Yen (6', 24'), Tuyet Dung (13'-pen, 38) and Nguyen Thi Hoa (20', 90'); and the remaining two by Nguyen Thi Muon (71') and Thuy Hang (76').

The win places Vietnam in top spot in Group D with three points, above Iran, Myanmar and Singapore thanks to an overwhelming goal difference (+11).

The next in line for Vietnam will be the second group match against Singapore on April 7.

The Women's Asian Cup qualifiers comprise 21 teams in one group of six and three groups of five teams.

The participants are competing according to a round-robin format, with the top four group winners eligible for the final tournament, scheduled to be held from April 7-22 in Jordan next year.

Four teams have won wild cards to the finals so far, including Japan, China, Australia and hosts Jordan.
