Earlier, the Vietnamese team was victorious over Japan and Kazakhstan and then surpassed Japan and the host in the quarterfinal and semi-final with the impressive score of 5-1.
Members of this year's Vietnamese team are students from the Hung Yen University of Technology and Education.
This was the fifth time Vietnamese students had ever secured the top spot at the annual student-level robot-making competition. Students of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology became the champions in 2002, 2004, and 2006 and Lac Hong University's students secured first prize last year.
Themed "Robot badminton", this year's contest saw the participation of 19 teams from 18 countries and territories.
Founded in 2002 by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) aims to create friendship among young people and advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region.
