The parliamentarians discussed important and urgent issues, evaluated the impact of economic growth and regional and global integration, and encouraged regional cooperation at all levels in the fields that concern countries. Established in Tokyo in 1993, the forum aims to promote greater cooperation among legislative bodies in the Asia - Pacific region.
Decisions of the forum are made by consensus. The plenary session of the APPF is held annually, usually in the second week of January.
Currently, the APPF includes 27 members: Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, the Republic of Korea, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Micronesia, the US, Fiji, the Philippines, Indonesia, Marshall Islands, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Vietnamese delegation led by the Chairman of the National Assembly Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc attended the event.
At the forum, Mr. Phuc said Vietnam's legislative body pledged to best perform its role in parliamentary external affairs, contributing to maintaining a peaceful environment, which facilitates the country's industrialisation and modernization, while protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
