Mr Dinh Van Kham, headmaster of the school reviewed the history and development of the school in the past 60 years. The Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted, previously known as the first high school of Ninh Binh province, was established in September, 1959 with 219 students and 11 teachers and other staff.
Over the past 60 years, over 8,000 students gained provincial excellent prizes; over 1,000 received National Excellent Student prizes; nine have won international prizes.
Speaking at the anniversary, Secretary of the Ninh Binh Party Commmittee Nguyen Thi Thanh praised efforts by the school's teachers, staff and students for their great contributions over the past 60 years.
She asked them to continue their efforts to record further achievements, and encouraged school staff to improve their professional skills and teaching methods, while setting a good example of morality and self-study for students to follow.
She stressed that students need to study hard, contributing to the cause of building hometown and the nation.
On behalf of the Party and the State, Vice State President Thinh presented the Order of Independence, second class to Luong Van Tuy Gifted High School; and handed over 20 scholarships to outstanding students.
