US DOC: Vietnam is not guilty of shrimp dumping

The joyful news comes following a final decision made by the DOC on September 10 on the anti-dumping duty order on frozen warm water shrimp from Vietnam for the 7th period of review (POR 7) from February 1, 2011 to January 31, 2012.

Accordingly, DOC okays to apply a zero anti-dumping duty on 33 Vietnam shrimp exporters' products imported into the US during the reviewed period.

In 2004, Vietnam was imposed an anti-dumping tax rate of 4.57% on its frozen warm water shrimp exports to the US during the POR 1 from July 2004 to January 2006.

Since then, persistent efforts by Vietnam enterprises to pursue the case following seven POR has paid off and DOC for the first time has admitted the fact that Vietnam shrimp exporters do not dump their products on the US market.

Along with the DOC final decision, VASEP once again confirmed that Vietnam shrimp exporters are operating under the market mechanism and receive no subsidy from the government. Therefore, their shrimp products should be treated fairly and equally in the US in accordance with the spirit of trade liberalization and the fine economic relations between Vietnam and the US.

During the first seven months of 2013, Vietnam shrimp exports to the US remained stable with US$337.6 million, accounting for 24% of the total of US$1.4 billion. Meanwhile, shrimp exports to other markets also records significant increasing in value, up 11% to Japan and 3% to the EU market compared to the same period last year.
