Upholding the People's army traditions

During the past 70 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, along with the caring and nurturing of the entire nation and support from international friends, the VPA has used the nation's military art tradition to overcome numerous challenges in the cause of national liberation, construction and defence. The resounding victories in fights for independence, freedom, national unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and fulfillment of international obligations, are forever immortal epics recorded in the nation's history as resplendent symbols of a revolutionary army sourced from the people and fighting for the people.

Under the complicated situation in the region and around the globe, as well as national difficulties and conspiracy of enemy forces, the VPA always thoroughly grasps Party and State viewpoints and guidelines, constantly improving its quality to complete assigned tasks.

The army has advised the Party and State in performing military tasks and defence, while proactively assessing and accurately forecasting complex situations together with the whole people to infiltrate conspiracy and overthrow riots by hostile forces to protect the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.

Along with this, the VPA also co-ordinates closely with related ministries, agencies and organisations at all levels to build a strong all-people defence front, participate in socio-economic development plans, and facilitate poverty alleviation, especially in border and remote areas and ethnic minority communities. The army is also a key force in handling of post-war and natural disaster consequences. Army officials and soldiers always uphold the spirit of "selfless devotion to the people" in any task, especially in difficult and dangerous situations, ready to accept sacrifices to defend the national sacred sovereignty over seas and islands and protect the lives and property of the people. 'Uncle Ho's soldiers' always have the trust of the Party, State and people. Their contributions are worthy to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

To meet the requirements of national defence in the new situation, the army should continue to fully grasp and implement the Party Resolutions on 'National defence strategy and 'Studying and Following President Ho Chi Minh's Moral Example', as well as the other movements to create a new impetus to complete its tasks in the new period.

The VPA should also promote building of a strong army in politics and organisation, positively facilitate innovation to improve the quality of its work, raise staff capacity, and enhance science-technology applications for effective use of weapons and equipment.

The army must accurately forecast trends, possibilities, and situations that can occur in the field of defence and security to actively advise the Party and State in planning guidelines and defence policies; while recommending rational measures to addressing sensitive and complex issues.

At the same time, the army should closely co-ordinate the public security forces and local people to infiltrate any conspiracy against the country from enemy forces, as well as fulfilling its role as a pioneering force in disaster prevention and recovery and hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

Under the Party's leadership, the entire army and people continue to focus on building a strong comprehensive army, and promote the force's traditions to make new achievements and secure victories to prolong the heroic history of the VPA.
