The younger Vietnamese players created waves of attack against Singapore right from the beginning of the game. They missed two chances to open the scoring when Cong Phuong's shot hit the crossbar in the 10th minute and Xuan Truong's free kick found the post in the 15th minute.
Their attack efforts finally paid off with a 19th-minute opener by Tuan Tai. After the goal, Vietnamese players kept the game under their control, quickly ending Singapore's chance to produce any counterattacks.
Tuan Tai doubled the score in the final minute of the first half.
Two goals by Cong Phuong and Van Toan in the second half sealed a fine 4-0 victory for Vietnam over Singapore.
At the tournament, U19 Vietnam will take on Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Cambodia on August 11, 13, 16 and 18, respectively.
