Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Dinh Van Dien beat the drum to open the Truong Yen Festival 2015.
The event was attended by State senior officials, Secretary of the Ninh Binh provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh, and local authorities, among others.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Thanh highlighted that this year's festival marks the 1,047th year since Dinh Bo Linh, who was crowned King Dinh Tien Hoang, defeated 12 warlords to unite the country and named it Dai Co Viet.
During the three-day festival, there will be many cultural and sports activities, including a procession to carry water from the Hoang Long River to the King Dinh and King Le temples, a drum festival, awrestling competition, and volleyball, human chess, and folk games...
The Truong Yen festival has been recognized as national intangible heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism by late 2014.
Ninh Binh province is seeking the upgrade of the Truong Yen Festival as a national event by 2018.
