National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung issued the statement during talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Chamal Rajapaksa in Ha Noi on July 15.The two leaders said they hope that the visit by the Sri Lankan delegation will contribute to strengthening the Viet Nam-Sri Lanka time-honoured friendship, economic cooperation and relations between the two legislatures.
Viet Nam and Sri Lanka have always closely cooperated, supported each other at important times and signed cooperation agreements across many fields such as national defense and security, trade and investment.
The Vietnamese top legislator congratulated Sri Lanka on its political, socio-economic achievements and expressed confidence that the improved traditional friendship and historical, cultural and economic similarities will create a motivation for the new development matching with their longstanding relations.
The two sides need to offer each other support at international and regional forums, share legislative and supervisory experiences and increase delegation exchanges at all levels, Hung said.
For his part, Sri Lankan parliamentary leader Rajapaksa affirmed that his visit aims to enhance the longstanding traditional friendship and bring into full play similarities between the two countries.
The sound relations between the two legislative bodies will help step up parliamentary and cross-cultural exchanges, Rajapaksa said.
He also agreed upon the two sides' continuous efforts to support each other in dealing with common global challenges like economic downturn and climate change.
The high-level Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation led by its speaker Chamal Rajapaksa on July 15 began its five-day visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
