According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP), seafood exports totalled US$4.7 billion in the first nine months of this year, up 4.5% against the same period in 2012, including US$2 billion from shrimp shipments.
The surge has resulted from a hike in the global price of shrimp due to scarcity.
During the remainder of the year, shrimp exports are expected to continue strongly thanks to positive signals in the US market. The US Department of Commerce (DoC) has recently decided that Vietnamese businesses have not been dumping frozen warm-water shrimp products on the US market.
The increase in shrimp exports may also be attributed to changes in the global market, with some countries cutting back on shrimp exports because of the presence of infectious diseases.
Vietnam has contained the diseases, ensuring the supply of healthy shrimp to the world and bringing in a handsome profit.
