Seafood export turnover during the Jan-Oct period reached USD5.5 billion, a year-on-year rise of 7.3 percent, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).
Of this figure, shrimp export still saw the sharpest growth in the US, EU and Japanese markets, valued at USD2.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent.Meanwhile, tra fish export witnessed a year-on-year reduction of nearly 2 percent, worth USD1.43 billion. Tuna export reached just over USD477 million, down 7.1 percent in comparison to the same period last year. Export turnover of seafood commodities such as cuttle-fish, octopus and mollusc decreased slightly, at USD5.48 billion.
Aiming to fulfil the year's target of seafood export turnover at USD6.5 billion, seafood export and processing businesses need to further seek new markets, improve the quality of products and cut production expenses.
