After a long time of no African swine fever outbreaks, in the past two months, the disease has suddenly appeared and spread widely in Ninh Binh province, causing more difficulties for pig breeders as the price of live hogs has been sharply decreasing. If local authorities do not take drastic measures, the disease will continue to spread widely, thus wiping out the province's outcomes in recovering hog herds in the recent time.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has required southern localities to immediately set up support centres and hotlines to provide help to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which has been spreading fast recently.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been developing complicatedly, with hundreds of new infections detected in dozens of provinces and cities nationwide. Fortunately, Ninh Binh province has to date recorded no positive cases but it is still facing a high risk of COVID-19 outbreaks. To actively prevent the pandemic, relevant agencies, sectors and units in the province have been carrying out measures to curb the potential spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Two COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Ninh Binh, becoming the first infections detected in the province since the fourth wave of outbreaks hit the country on April, 27, the provincial Department of Health said on May 19.

Localities and medical facilities are urgently carrying out multiple measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and stamp out outbreaks in the community.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) have said they are willing to help Vietnam deal with the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).
