In the past few years, the coastal district of Kim Son has paid due attention to planting and developing mangrove forest in an attempt to protect the environment and create livelihoods for local residents.

In 2022, Vietnam had 14,790,075 ha of forest area, of which 10,134,082 ha were natural forests and 4,655,933 ha were planted ones, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced in a decision on June 20.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan has asked municipal and provincial People's Committees to take drastic measures to ensure forest fire prevention amid extremely hot weather.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) jointly launched the Sustainable Forest Management project and Biodiversity Conservation project on April 22.

Currently, Ninh Binh has over 30.000 hectares of forest land and forestry land; in which, special-use forest accounts for overs 60 percent of total forest land area. In order to increase forest cover, localities in the province take proactive measures to plant new tree and gradually restore forests.

With thousands of hectares of forest land and favourable conditions in terms of climate and terrain, the northern province of Ninh Binh boasts strengths to develop forest economic activities. Especially, thanks to its creativeness as mobilising many stake-holders in forest protection, the province's forest area has been maintained and expanded annually.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given 15 provinces and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development 185 billion VND (8.3 million USD) to support forest fire prevention and control.
