On April 21, President Truong Tan Sang and his delegation arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma airport to attend the Asian-African Conference, the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (known as the Bandung Conference) and a celebration of 10 years of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership, in Bandung City, Indonesia.
The delegation was welcomed by Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Khofiah Indar Parawansa, state officials, Vietnam Ambassador to Indonesia, Nguyen Xuan Thuy, Ambassador and Head of Vietnam's Permanent Representative Mission to ASEAN Vu Dang Dung along with numerous representatives from Vietnamese representative agencies.
Held in Bandung from April 18 to 24, 1955, the initial Asian-African Conference marked the first time that 29 Asian and African countries, including Vietnam - gathered to join hands to determine their own future.
The Vietnamese delegation's participation is designed to work with other Asian and African nations to protect the principles of the Bandung Conference and of international law.
This year's conference themed "Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity" is expected to adopt three important documents- the Bandung Message 2015, the Declaration to reactivate the New Asia-Africa Strategic Partnership and the Palestine Declaration. Along with 109 Asian and African countries and 25 international organizations, the Vietnamese delegation is to attend plenary sessions, bilateral meetings, and the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, take part in a parade and an inauguration of Asia - Africa memorialin Bandung. After his arrival in Indonesia, Sang met with Vietnamese embassy and representative mission staff, informing them about the nation's latest developments and its bilateral relations with Indonesia.Both nations are set to double their current US$5 billion in trade in the time ahead.He asked the staff to make greater efforts in realising the Party and State policies on external relations, and expressed his conviction that representative diplomatic agencies and Vietnamese community would stay united for the sake of stronger Vietnam-Indonesia ties and cooperation within the ASEAN.
