On behalf of Party and State leaders, President Quang noted that he highly appreciated the significant contributions made by MOD officers to the country's struggles for liberation and reunification and the national construction process, as well as to the building of a regular, élite and modern Vietnamese army.
He stressed that since its establishment in 1945, the MOD has fulfilled its duty of consulting the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Defence and its General Staff and has made outstanding achievements that have been highly acknowledged by the Party and State, thus serving as one of the most important agencies of the PAVN General Staff.
The MOD has been awarded the Hero of the People's Armed Forces title twice for its glorious exploits.
Talking with the guests on the regional and the world situation, the President noted that at a time when many complicated events have occurred, it was necessary for the entire Party, people and army to unite, determined to realise the goals and targets set in the Twelfth National Party Congress' resolution.
He requested that the MOD keep updated in order to actively and properly consult with the Party, State and army on both urgent and long-term issues as well as strategic issues relating to the national construction and defence, contributing to safeguarding the nation's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity in all circumstances.
He expressed his hope that retired officers would promote the glorious tradition of the MOD and continue making positive contributions to encouraging the participation of younger generations in the national construction and defence.
