Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien chaired the meeting.
Representatives of Ninh Binh's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kim Son Border Guard Station, and chairpersons of the People's Committees of coastal communes and towns attended the meeting via teleconference.
As scheduled, the EC delegation would pay the third working trip to Vietnam in late October to inspect the outcomes of implementing its recommendations made during its visit in November 2019.
The MARD suggested the Chairpersons of the People's Committees of 28 coastal provinces and cities to steer their related departments, sectors and units to strictly carry out the following tasks:
Continuing to carry out solutions to fight IUU in a bid to have the EC's "yellow card" warning removed; implementing the 2017 Law on Fisheries and related documents;
Building a specific plan and scenario for working sessions with the EC delegation and assigning tasks to agencies and units.
Implementing effectively regulations on monitoring and controlling fishing boats; installation of vessel monitoring systems.
At the same time, imposing strict punishments on fishing vessels that violate foreign waters. Their files and history of violations must be controlled carefully.
Implementing the instructions of the Government, Prime Minister and national steering committee for IUU prevention, Ninh Binh has actively carried out the EC's recommendations on fighting IUU.
The management of fishing fleets has been enhanced. By October 12, 61 out of its 62 fishing boats had been granted registration certificates and licences to catch aquatic products. All these ships have fulfilled the marking as regulated and none of them have violated regulations on fishing areas.
To prepare for the working session with the EC delegation, Ninh Binh has been collected and reviewed all data, information and documents to prove its accomplishment of the EC's recommendations on preventing IUU.
