The PM was welcomed at the airport by Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh; Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Head of the Permanent Vietnam Mission to the United Nations; and officials of the mission, among others.
During his three-day stay in the US, PM Phuc will hold talks with US President Donald Trump, meet a number of US parliamentarians and ministers, attend a meeting with US businesses, deliver a speech at the Global Heritage Fund and meet with the Vietnamese community in the US.
The Vietnamese leader will also visit New York, meet Secretary-General of the UN António Guterres and attend a ceremony marking 40 years of Vietnam's UN membership.
Soon after his arrival in New York, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited and talked with officials of the Permanent Vietnam Mission to the UN.
The government leader extended regards from Party and State leaders to officials and staffs at the mission. He praised the significant results attained by the Vietnam Mission over recent years, which, he said, have contributed to implementing Vietnam's foreign policy of multilateralisation, diversification and actively and proactively international integration.
Briefing the mission's officials and staffs on Vietnam's socio-economic performance in the opening months of 2017, the PM noted that despite difficulties, several fields still registered a good growth momentum, particularly including the exports of strength items and tourism. The country's position has been strengthened and is constantly increasing in the international arena, he added.
PM Phuc spoke highly of the mission's efforts to coordinate with authorised Vietnamese agencies, US partners and the UN to prepare for his visit to New York.
In that spirit, he asked the mission to continue building on its past achievements and better fulfilling the task of introducing and advertising the image of Vietnam and its people to international friends.
In addition to its functions at the UN, the mission should pay attention to promoting socio-economic, cultural and tourism ties between Vietnam and the US, and strive for more achievements in the future, contributing further to the implementation of the country's foreign affairs tasks, the PM suggested.
At the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga reported to PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the activities of the Vietnam Mission to the UN.
She noted that the UN always counts on Vietnam as a leading country in the implementation of the UN agendas. So, officials and employees at the mission always unite and strive to fulfill all assigned tasks, with a focus on the realisation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The mission has performed well Vietnam's duty as an active member of the UN and actively participated in supporting the Vietnamese community living and working in New York as well as in boosting the economic, trade and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and the US, Nga added.
