PM Dung made the remarks at a reception for visiting US Secretary of Treasury Jacob J. Lew in Hanoi on November 14. He also requested that the US recognise Vietnam as a market economy.
The PM added that Vietnam stands ready to co-ordinate with the US during the TPP talks, saying that the development pace of each nation should be accounted for during the process in order to reach a balanced deal that serves the interests of all signatories.
As a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Vietnam always abides by commitments reached in the past. The nation actively applies the principles of a market economy and works towards integration into the global economy for rapid and sustainable development, he said.
PM Dung also commended the outcomes of a working session between the US Department of Treasury and the Vietnamese Finance Ministry, and praised their past collaboration over, especially in technical assistance in taxation, public accounting, one-door customs policy and macroeconomic analysis models.
The PM pointed to economic, trade and investment areas where even more can be done to benefit both sides.
Secretary Lew said the US attaches great importance to Vietnam's involvement in the TPP negotiations and hopes for its flexibility in negotiating e-payment and market expansion measures.
He vowed that the US would actively step up talks on the double taxation avoidance agreement between the two nations.
Secretary Lew's visit is intended to foster financial and monetary co-operation with Vietnam. He stressed that the US pays special attention to working closely with Vietnam.
