The Party leader made the statement at a meeting with newly accredited Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz in Hanoi on January 13.
He said he hopes that the diplomat will contribute to consolidating and further promoting the traditional friendship, solidarity, mutual trust and comprehensive co-operation between the two Parties, States and peoples.
Despite geographical distance, Vietnam and Cuba have always supported each other in their struggles for national independence and development, General Secretary Trong stressed, reiterating Vietnam's consistent policy of backing the Cuban people's revolutionary cause and stand side by side with them in the fight for the noble objectives and ideals of socialism.
While congratulating Cuba on its achievements during the update of its socio-economic development model, General Secretary Trong also expressed his delight at the increases in the two countries' solidarity, friendship and comprehensive co-operation.
Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz pledged to do his utmost to contribute to Vietnam-Cuba relations during his tenure.
