According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in 2021, the total retail sales and service revenue was 41.53 trillion VND (1.82 billion USD), a year-on-year increase of 14.3 percent and 2.6 percent higher than the yearly target.
The province's total retail sales were estimated to rake in 33.93 trillion VND, a year-on-year rise of 13.3 percent. The price fluctuation of commodities was quite stable in December 2021.
December's CPI saw a minor drop of 0.58 percent against the previous month, and up 1.13 percent against the same period last year. The CPI in 2021 saw a year-on-year increase of 0.98 percent.
To date, most businesses, distributors and production facilities set up plans to stock up goods to supply commodities in the year-end month and the Tet holiday.
Currently, as the COVID-19 pandemic is well controlled, socio-economic activities continue in the new normal, resulting in a rise in the purchase of essential goods.
However, the price of essential commodities fell slightly thanks to the available supplies of cakes, candies, drinks and raw food like pork, beef and chicken. The province's market remains stable.
Ngo Minh Kim, Vice Director of the Department of Trade and Industry, said in order to ensure the supply of and demand for commodities and to stabilise the market during the Tet holiday, the department has asked functional units and local distributors and enterprises to keep a close watch on market developments in order to prevent the shortage of commodities, especially for essential items.
It has stepped up the communication work about food safety and protected the rights of consumers.
In addition, the department has also paid heed to trade promotions, connecting markets and boosting consumption of agriculture products; promoting the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritise Vietnamese goods"; assisting firms to expand production, and seek partners and markets.
Besides, the provincial steering committee 389 has issued a plan to combat smuggling and trade fraud before, during and after the Tet holiday, examine food safety and quality, and speculation of goods and price hikes.
In the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to direct its subordinate units to keep a close watch on the market's developments and commodities' prices.
At the same time, it will step up inspection of food quality and prices so as to promptly take measures to regulate the prices of commodities and stablise the market.
