This is the second time Viet Nam will host the UN Day of Vesak. Themed "Buddhist Perspective towards Achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals", the five-day event is expected to attract 10,000 attendees including 1,500 Buddhist dignitaries from nearly 100 countries and territories around the world, according to the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha.
The first preliminary session of Vasak 2014 took place on November 23-24 in Ha Noi with the attendance of more than 70 Vietnamese and foreign delegates from India, Thailand, China, the US, France, the Republic of Korea, Cambodia and Malaysia.
The participants agreed on important activities to prepare the 2014 Vesak celebration.
The first Vesak celebration was held in Ha Noi in 2008.
