In 2004, Dinh Huu Uoc, a local resident of Kim Trung commune in Kim Son district, decided to raise numerous sea species in Kim Trung industrial shrimp farming.
At first, he farmed several species like prawn, green mud crabs and white-leg shrimp, however, he failed to earn money from them. Then, he shifted to farming oysters which brings higher income to him.
Successes of farmers in the coastal areas of Kim Son district need assistance and support from the State and province in coastal infrastructure development.
Coastal areas and islands in Kim Son district have a wide area of alluvial ground which is convenient for aquaculture. But these potential and advantages have been waken up only when sea dykes were built such as Binh Minh 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Irrigation systems and roads were also upgraded and expanded, creating favourable conditions for local farmers to invest in production.
Inshore seafood catching activities have become bustling, attracting thousands of labourers, increasing incomes for local residents and helping to protect the Fatherland's sea and island sovereignty.
In the 2020-2025 tenure, Kim Son district will focus on developing aquaculture in combination with environmental protection, and strict management and effective exploitation of economic potential of coastal areas.
In order to realise the target, Kim Son has paid due attention to the planning work.
After 30 years since Ninh Binh's re-establishment, coastal areas of Kim Sondistrict have become a dynamic economic region with the emergence of many wealthy farmers and fishmen.
The attractiveness of the region together with the high political determination and specific solutions and steps are expected to create stronger breakthroughs in exploiting marine potential and advantages of Kim Son district, thereby turning it into a dynamic economic region of Ninh Binh province in the near future.
