According to the Department of Health, there were 21 dengue fever cases recorded in all eight districts and cities of the province by July 4. Most of the infection cases had returned from southern localities such as Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang city.
It is forecast that the number of infections will rise in the coming time. Therefore, the Department of Health has steered the provincial Center for Disease Control and medical centers of districts and cities to step up measures to prevent and control dengue fever and organise a campaign to kill larvae.
They were requested to closely monitor dengue fever cases in medical centers and in the communities, as well as outbreaks and high-risk areas.
Doctor Tran Van Thien from the Ninh Binh Center for Disease Control said dengue fever has become one of the fastest growing mosquito-borne diseases in the world and there is no specific medicine for this disease. To date, spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes and larvae is still be the most effective way to prevent dengue fever, he said.
Administrations at all levels and socio-political organisations need to join hands to prevent and control dengue fever, especially local people must take preventive measures right at home, he added.
