In the past years, Ninh Binh has paid due attention to spurring e-commerce activities in a bid to support local firms, farmers and people to advertise and introduce their products and services on the internet.
The Ninh Binh provincial People's Committee issued Plan No.142/KH-UBND dated August 31, 2021 on developing digital enterprises in the province in the period of 2021-2025 with a vision to 2030 to create favourable conditions for local firms to access technologies and build their own products, services, and business models on digital platforms, thus producing Vietnam-branded products and contributing to the development of digital economy and digital society of Ninh Binh rapidly and sustainably.
The provincial People's Committee also issued a plan on developing e-commerce in the period of 2021-2025 and a plan on supporting farmers to sell their products on e-commerce platforms.
Basing on these specific policies, local sectors, agencies and localities have implemented sonorously and effectively measures to support firms and households to advertise their products and services on the internet.
Hoang Trung Kien, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said the department has stepped up the popularisation of e-commerce to cadres, civil servants, firms and people from all strata of society.
At the same time, it has assisted local enterprises and units to apply e-commerce in production and business activities such as building websites for firms and cooperatives to sell products on global e-commerce platforms such as Alibaba and Amazon.
It has worked with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy under the Ministry of Industry and Trade to assist local firms take part in Vietnamese pavilions on e-commerce platforms such as Sendo, Tiki, Lazada, Postmart.vn. and Voso.vn and boosting exports through e-commerce.
To date, Ninh Binh has supported firms, business households and local people to create 21,496 accounts to put 1,147 products on sale on e-commerce platforms such as postmart.vn and voso.vn.
In the first seven months of 2022, there were 2,233 transactions on these e-commerce platforms with total revenue of 430 million VND.
Doan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Information and Communications said up to now, the number of local people granted with electronic identification codes was about 9.5% while the proportion of adults with bank accounts reached about 61.2%.
E-commerce is considered an important tool to help local businesses increase their competitiveness in the globalized environment.
Making transactions on electronic means are faster than traditional methods and not restricted by geographical conditions while businesses can know all necessary information before making transactions.
This allows businesses to save their travel costs and time while making transactions. Though there are many advantages, the development of e-commerce in the province has faced many difficulties in recent years, and the revenue from e-commerce is still low.
According to the assessment of functional sectors, the e-commerce market has large room for development. Therefore, in the coming time, local sectors, branches, units and localities will continue to apply measures to spur e-commerce development, striving to achieve the set goals.
