Director of the Sports Training and Competition Centre Pham Tuan Anh said that about 80 percent of the upgrade workload of the Ninh Binh Gymnasium - the competition venue of Karate of the Games has been completed.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tong Quang Thin said that SEA Games 31 is not only a sport event but also helps promote culture and tourism between countries in the region.
The hosting of Karate is a good opportunity for Ninh Binh province to promote its image and tourism potential to delegates and tourists from many regional countries, he said, adding that provincial departments, agencies, and localities were asked to work closely for the safe and successful competition.
Thin, who is also head of the provincial organising committee for the Games, said vehicles have been arranged for transporting athletes, referees and officials. The committee has also enhance the dissemination of information about the event on the mass media and LED screens in Ninh Binh city.
SEA Games 31 will be held in Hanoi and 11 neighbouring provinces and cities from May 12-23. Featuring 40 sports with 526 events, it is expected to attract around 10,000 participants.
The biennial event was initially scheduled to take place in late 2021 but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic's impact.
