Ninh Binh seeks Japan's assistance in preserving cultural heritage ancient capital

Chairman of the Ninh Binh provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc on October 17 had a working session with Japanese partners, focusing on exchanging experience and Japan's assistances in preserving cultural heritage in the ancient capital.

Japanese Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Watanabe Shige, and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), central agencies, and the provincial Departments of Culture and Sports, and Tourism attended the working session.

Speaking at the working session, Ngoc briefed participants about the geological position, cultural heritages and orientations of preserving cultural heritage ancient capital in the province.
Ninh Binh is now home to nearly 2,000 tangible cultural heritages and approximately 500 intangible cultural ones. It also possesses the world cultural and natural heritage of Trang An recognised by UNESCO.
In 2014, the Prime Minister approved Ninh Binh's master urban planning project to 2030 with a vision to 2050.
The provincial Party Committee has issued Resolution No 16-NQ/TU on the re-arrangement of administrative units at the district and commune levels for the period of 2023-2030. Accordingly, by 2025, the district of Hoa Lu will be merged into Ninh Binh city. The newly rearranged administrative unit will be featured with "urban city of ancient capital - heritage" based on outstanding natural, historical and cultural values of Trang An.
Ngoc expressed his wish the Government, localities, organisations and individuals of Japan would exchange and share their experiences in preserving and promoting the values of culture and heritages and planning for heritage urban areas.
Ninh Binh also hoped to receive more support from the Japanese Embassy to build Ninh Binh into an urban area of ancient capital - heritage, he added.

Deputy Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam Watanabe Shige introduced various assistance forms of Japan in preserving and upholding heritage values and committed to boost cooperation in various fields in the coming time, particularly cultural cooperation with Ninh Binh.
At the working session, leaders of Ninh Binh and participants discussed and suggested Japan to support Ninh Binh in preserving and restoring Hoa Lu ancient capital, and promoting the cultural heritage in general and building an urban area of ancient capital -heritage in particular.
