According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the province's export turnover was 274.4 million USD in April, a sharp rise of 45.7 percent against the same period last year.
The figure brought the total export value in the first four months to 920.5 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 17 percent.
Key foreign currency earners included garments (96.7 million USD); cement and clinker (204.6 million USD); footwear (176.3 million USD); cameras and components (333 million USD); and electronic components (19.4 million USD).
Meanwhile, some export products saw declines such as canned pineapple (down 49.7 percent); sedge mats (down 34.1 percent); gloves (down 35.9 percent); and aluminum ingots (down 7.5 percent).
The province's import turnover hit 238.5 million USD in April, a 2.1-fold rise from the same month of 2020.
Its total import value in the first four months was 936.6 million USD, a year-on-year fall of 0.4 percent.
Ninh Binh's main imports included electronic components (284 million USD); automobile components (396.3 million USD); fabric (37.6 million USD); cars (18.7 million USD) and materials for footwear manufacturing (83.6 million USD).
The department has supported exporters by granting 349 certificates of origin (C/O) to them, thereby helping businesses to reduce time for import-export procedures.
The province issued and carried out numerous policies to improve competitiveness, helping enterprises to take advantages of free trade agreements (FTAs), helping to boost exports.
The structure of exported goods has changed positively towards increasing the proportion of processing products and reducing the rates of raw materials.
Hoang Trung Kien, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said the province's export and import will continue flourish in the coming time as FTAs take effect.
Especially, the enforcement of trade deals like CPTPP, EVFTA, and UKVFTA will continue to create favorable conditions for importers and exporters to penetrate markets with preferential tariffs.
Besides, the growing quantity of export staples such as clothes, embroidery products and electronic components will help increase the province's export value in 2021.
At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade has also effectively implemented programmes and plans to develop e-commerce, export development plans for 2021-2025 in Ninh Binh province to expand markets, build brands and promote local products to foreign markets.
A database on international economic integration and free trade agreements was built to support local exporters and importers.
However, import and export activities are still facing many barriers, including the transportation of goods; interrupted supply chains; unstable recovery of market demands; and high costs for logistic services and imported materials.
In the coming time, under the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the provincial People's Committee, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to support businesses in terms of market and administrative procedures related to import and export activities.
At the same time, programmes will be carried out to support and increase competitiveness for enterprises.
Ninh Binh will also complete infrastructure at industrial zones and logistic infrastructure to attract more projects producing goods for export.
