The 7th Sports Festival of Ninh Binh officially opened on October 22 at the province's gymnasium.
Ninh Binh's 7th Sports Festival opens
Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong attended the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony saw the procession of 25 delegations representing the army forces, state agencies, political and social organisations and people from all walks of life.
More than 800 athletes have been competing in 15 sports during the event, which runs from September 12 and October 30, 2022.
To date, 13 out of the 15 sports have been completed while the track-and-field and men's volleyball will be held after the opening ceremony.
In his opening remarks, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Manh Cuong underscored that the local sport sector has received due attention in the past few years.
Numerous policies and mechanisms have been issued to build infrastructure serving for sport activities as well as boosting sport and physical exercise movements among people in the whole province, he said.
Through the province and district-level competitions, many talented athletes have been found, and they have made great contributions to the sport cause of Ninh Binh and Vietnam as well, Cuong said.
At the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), Ninh Binh's athletes secured nine medals for Vietnam, including three golds, three silvers and three bronzes, the official added.
The 7th Sports Festival is a major event marking the 200th anniversary of Ninh Binh appellation and the 30th of the province's re-establishment.
