At the meeting, participants heard and gave opinions to a draft report on the socio - economic situation in the first six months of 2014 and the major tasks for the rest of the year.
In the past six months, the province's gross domestic products (GDP) leaped by 8.2 percent. Agriculture gained a year-on-year increase of 0.7 percent, aquaculture reached 17.5million tons, up 7.3 percent in comparison to same period last year, while industrial production value reached nearly 13 trillion VND, an increase of 19.2 percent, and the total investment capital rose to nearly 9 trillion VND, up 16.2 percent against last year.
The total budget revenue reached 1.261 trillion VND, increasing by 45.7 percent over the budget projection by People's Council, up 5.3 percent compared to same period last year. Export and import revenue amounted to 120 billion, a year-on-year rise of 33.3 percent. The province recorded more than 3.3 million tourist arrivals, a fall of 5 percent compared to the same period last year.
Education, health care, culture, sports and tourism, social security are ensured; and security - defence maintained.
In his closing speech, chairman Thang, who is also deputy secretary of the provincial Party committee, said there were indications of a positive change compared to the same period last year. Industrial production and export activity maintained its positive growth rate, tourism service saw a strong development, agricultural production was stable, security-defence, while social order, health care and education maintained and ensured.
However, there remain many challenges and difficulties such as the economic growth was still low, the progress of the implementation of projects remained slow, the administrative reform in some sectors was unsatisfactory, and many difficulties to enterprises remain unsolved.
Thang asked authorities and industries, in the time to come, to continue intensifying the administrative reform, working out mechanisms and support policies to ease the difficulties, creating favourable conditions for enterprises in production, business and market expansion, implementing solutions to increase revenue and ensure resources for development investment, especially in the field of agriculture, rural development and tourism. They should prepare to apply for UNESCO recognition of Trang An complex as a world heritage site, accelerate the expansion of Ninh Binh's city administrative boundary as well as functional areas, and raise awareness of the defence and national security in the context of the complicated international situation.(Translated by Nguyen Thuy)
