Ninh Binh pays due attention to developing craft villages

Total revenues from the local craft villages in 2022 reached over 2.47 trillion VND (105.23 million USD). Average income of labourers ranges from 3 to 7 million VND per month.

Agro-forestry-aquatic products and handicrafts are sold mainly in the domestic market, while products of sedge weaving, embroidery and pottery are primarily exported.

To date, 10 out of the 63 craft villages have registered trademarks for their own products. Many of them are developing and expanding, namely Ninh Van stone carving, Ninh Hai embroidery, Kim Son sedge making, and Yen Mo pottery.

In an attempt to preserve and promote the identity of the traditional craft villages, Ninh Binh has paid much attention to supporting the development of the craft villages and has issued many policies to encourage enterprises to invest modern machines and facilities and apply advanced technologies in production, so as to expand production scale and build trademarks.

Besides, it also has incentive policies for skilled artisans and craftsmen, such as honouring excellent or meritorious artisans.

By the end of 2022, Ninh Binh has four meritorious artisans awarded by the State President and 98 meritorious artisans honoured by the provincial People's Committee.

In particular, the province has also built handicrafts into OCOP products, supported craft villages in building websites, designing products, and introducing products on e-commerce platforms.

In addition, Ninh Binh has also paid much attention to protecting the environment and investing in infrastructure in craft villages and boosting trade promotions for craft products.

In the recent years, the province has also focused on developing craft villages in combination with tourism. A number of tourism routes have been launched in connection with sightseeing and hands-on experiences for visitors such as Tam Coc - Bich Dong - Thung Nham, Hoa Lu ancient capital linked with visiting Van Lam embroidery village and Ninh Van stone carving village; Van Long, Trang An, Bai Dinh ecotourism routes connected with craft villages in Gia Vien district; thereby creating jobs for local residents, and preserving cultural values of the craft villages.
