The agriculture sector plays an active role since it does not only serve as a pillar of the economy but it also strives to build a multi-value ecological agriculture.
Dinh Van Khiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said Ninh Binh has set an orientation of developing an eco-, orgarnic, safe and multi-value agriculture that applies hi-tech technology, digital transformation and combines with eco-tourism.
In the past few years, the agriculture sector has combined development with tourism and enhanced environmental and ecosystem protection.
To date, the agriculture sector accounts for 10% of the provincial economy's structure. The sector enjoys an average growth rate of approximately 3% in the period of 2021-2023 with its production value reaching nearly 150 million VND per hectare.
Currently, some agriculture models have basically meet criteria of low-carbon and circular economy.
Some models of raising the value of farm produce such as planting lotus and rice serving tourism and agriculture, namely lotus farming in Hoa Lu district, Tam Coc rice field, chrysanthemums farming and OCOP products.
Khiem said the outcomes of the province's agriculture towards low-carbon, circular economy has not been commensurate with its potential.
In an attempt to develop the low-carbon, circular economy and to build multi-value organic agriculture, Ninh Binh needs to raise awareness of farmers on restricting using chemicals in farming, husbandry and aquaculture; launch a campaign to grow more trees in preventive forests, mangrove forests, sea and river dyke areas, residential areas, tourist sites and industrial zones.
Especially, the province should pay due attention to zoning off land areas for agriculture, rice farming, forestry, husbandry and aquaculture, Khiem added.
