A tree planting festival was launched in Ninh Binh province on February 17 or the sixth day of the first lunar month. Provincial leaders joined local officials and people at the event.
Ninh Binh launches tree-planting festival
In response to the tree planting festival, Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Ha; Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Tran Hong Quang; Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc, cadres and locals in Ninh Binh city planted 1,000 trees in the tree park inside the Trang An Landscape in Ninh Xuan commune, Hoa Lu district.
The tree planting festival was also held in eight other districts and cities across the province.
In response to the tree planting festival, which was initiated by late President Ho Chi Minh in 1959 and the Prime Minister's Directive No. 45/CT-TTg dated December 31, 2020 on planting an additional one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period, Ninh Binh set a target of planting over 5.5 million trees and over 200 hectares of forest across the province, and by 2025, it will have a higher area of urban trees than the average of the whole nation. In 2021 alone, it expects to plant one million trees and 40 hectares of forest.
Local residents also take part in the event.
Addressing the event, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc stressed the significance of tree planting in preventing natural disasters, improving the quality of the environment, and bettering local livelihoods amidst global warming, climate change and sea level rise.
He noted that tree planting is a practical activity that will contribute to preserving and promoting natural and cultural values of Trang An's landscape, turning Ninh Binh into a tourism centre of the region and of the whole country.
Ngoc called on local cadres and people of all strata to take part in tree planting to successfully achieve the above target.
