A blood donation campaign, called the Red Spring festival, was launched in the northern province of Ninh Binh on January 31 to ease blood shortages after the Lunar New Year (Tet) and to join hands in fighting the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The event is being hosted by the Ninh Binh Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in collaboration with the Viet Duc University Hospial and Ninh Binh General hospital.
The event attracted hundred of young people, workers and local residents.
During the event, the organising board will also hand out free face masks, 500 bottles of antiseptic water and hand sanitizer, along with leaflets on preventive measures against the new coronavirus (nCoV) epidemic for participan..
The event collected 737 blood units.
In 2020 alone, the province carried out 23 blood donation programs, with nearly 9,000 blood units collected, accounting for 128 of the yearly plan, representing the hightest number since it launched the event.
