The patients returned to Vietnam from Russia on flight VN5062, which landed at Van Don International Airport in northern Quang Ninh province on July 17. They were immediately sent to concentrated quarantine facilities in Ninh Binh province.
After testing positive for the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on July 19, they were taken for quarantine and treatment at Cau Yen General Clinic in Hoa Lu district.
A total of 24 people who had close contact with the eight patients have been also quarantined at medical establishments. All their first sample tests showed negative results for the coronavirus.
Vietnam has reported no new COVID-19 infections in the community for 96 days as of July 21.
Among 396 confirmed cases so far, 256 are imported ones who were put under quarantine right after their arrival, posing no risk of infection in the community.
