The ongoing 2021 FIDE Online Cadets & Youth Rapid World Cup are being held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The FIDE Online Youth Rapid World Cup Finals, taking place from August 26-30, consists of ten separate 16-player knockout tournaments (Girls U10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and Open U10, 12, 14, 16, and 18) with each featuring six players who have personal right to participate and 10 qualifiers, for 160 participants in total.
Chess stars Vu Bui Thi Thanh Van and Nguyen Hong Nhung have set up an all-Vietnamese final match in the Girls U16 category at the ongoing FIDE Online Cadets & Youth Rapid World Cup 2021, thus securing their places in the FIDE Online Rapid Super Final 2021, scheduled to take place from December 18 to 24.
In the semifinals on the evening of August 28, Hong Nhung and Thanh Van scored 2-0 wins against Malaysia's Sim Jia Ru and Kazakhstan's Xeniya Balabayeva, respectively.
The two Vietnamese competitors will clash against each other in the title match at 10pm tonight (Aug. 29).
