During his trip to the province 10 years ago, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong evaluated that Ninh Binh has all typical topographical features of northern Vietnam as it boasts plains, mountainous areas, and coastal areas and enough necessary conditions to develop agriculture, services and industry.
In particular, the provinces holds huge potential for tourism development, namely Trang An ecotourism site, Bai Dinh pagoda, Cuc Phuong National Park, Hoa Lu ancient capital, and Van Long wetland reserve.
Therefore, in its economic development strategy, Ninh Binh needs to take full advantage of a land with many historical relic sites and beautiful natural landscapes to develop the tourism and service sector, he said, adding that the "smokeless industry" should be adirection for Ninh Binh in the coming time.
Under the Party leader's orientations and suggestions, Ninh Binh has issued numerous policies and mechanisms in a bid to turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector.
The province has focused on improving the quality of building and adjusting the master planning project for tourism development; building infrastructure and technical infrastructure; launching new tourism products in association with historical and culture values; creating favourable conditions and climate for attracting investment in tourism, restaurants and hotels.
At the same time, local party committees and administrations have always accompanied and encouraged businesses to build new tourism products andenhance tourism linkages.
Apart from existing beautiful destinations such as Hoa Lu ancient capital, Cuc Phuong National Park, Phat Diem cathedral, Bai Dinh pagoda, andVan Long nature reserve, several new tourist sites have been built and put into operation, namely Thung Nham, Mua cave, Hoa Lu old quarter, Khe Coc island and they became renowned destinations for domestic and foreign visitors.
Besides, numerous gifts, souvenirs and OCOP products for tourists with localunique and distinctive features have been made and advertised widely, such as Bo Bat ceramics, Van Lam embroidery products, and paintings made of Bodhi leaves.
After ten years of implementing the General Secretary's directions, the province's tourism sector has been developing strongly. Ninh Binh has been ranked among the top destinations for both domestic and foreign travellers.
In the first six months of 2024, the province served over 6.28 million visitors, posting a rise of 38.5% from the same period last year and making up 83.8% of the yearly plan.
Total revenue from tourism activities hit nearly 5.94 trillion VND, up 54.2% as compared to the same period last year, and making up 72% of the yearly plan.
In recent years, Ninh Binh has been voted as a safe and attractive destination by many reputable travel websites and magazines such as TripAdvisor, Telegraph, and Business Insider.
Earlier this month, the world's largest travel guidance platform TripAdvisor revealed its Travelers' Choice Awards Best of the Best Things to Do 2024, and the "full-day Ninh Binh highlights tour from Hanoi" was on the list of Top 10 Experiences in the World.
These outcomes are considered as the tribute and special sentiments that the Party Organisation, administration and people of Ninh Binh would like to extend to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - an eminent leader who wholeheartedly devoted his all life to the Fatherland and the people.
