In 2016, Ninh Binh's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development began studying and experimenting technological advances in vegetable and fruit farming such as net houses, PE film green houses, semi-automatic watering system, and drip irrigation systems.
There are an approximately 10 hectares of agriculture land in the province using net houses or PE film green houses. Thanks to this, enterprises, farmers have earned billions of VND each year. Worthy of note are the models of vegetable and flower farming in net houses in Yen Khanh, Kim Son and Hoa Lu districts.
Besides, there are models of using organic fertiliser in rice cultivation, applying mechanization in rice production, and using drones to spray pesticides.
Apart from cultivation, the application of hi-tech in the husbandry sector has also been step up such as selective breeding, livestock food production, vaccination, automation in producing and caring for livestock and treating the environment, thus increasing the value, reducing product prices, ensuring food safety and adapting to climate change.
In aquaculture, Ninh Binh's farmers have carried out hi-tech projects to breed shrimp, oyster and clam in canvas-lined ponds.
As for freshwater fish farming, many technologies of intensive fish farming and biofloc model have brought about higher yields ranging from 10 - 15 tonnes per crop, earning billions of VND per hectares per year.
According to Pham Duy Phu, Deputy Director of the Center for High-Tech Agriculture and Trade Promotion under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, most of the high-tech agricultural production models in the province have initially reaped fruits and been multiplied.
However, the province has not had any concentrated high-tech agricultural production zones and the application of hi-tech in agricultural production is spontaneous, thereby no breakthroughs being created, he said, adding that enterprises and farmers have not got access to the government's credit packages designed to encourage the application of hi-tech.
In the coming time, in order to encourage and provide favourable conditions for businesses, organizations and individuals to make investment in hi-tech agricultural production, the provincial authorities will improve the capacity of human resources working in the field of agro-forestry-fishery, cooperate with universities and agriculture research institutes to transfer and provide vocational training for farmers.
On the other hand, developing hi-tech agriculture in line with the One Commune - One Product (OCOP) Programme, building brands and geographical indications, gradually establishing typical agricultural brands of Ninh Binh, thus facilitating the consumption of agricultural products.
