National Party Congress wraps up successfully
Comrade Dinh The Huynh on behalf of the congress' Presidium presented outcomes of the 12th Party Central Committee (PCC)'s first conference. The 12th PCC conducted an election in accordance with the Party's Charter and the congress' election regulations, and elected 19 Politburo members.
The PCC elected comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the 11th PCC, to continue as the 12th PCC's General Secretary with a majority of the vote.
The PCC asked the Politburo to assign several Politburo members to be members of the Secretariat. The PCC's first conference elected three members of the Politburo.
The PCC elected 21 members to the PCC Commission for Inspection and comrade Trang Quoc Vuong, Politburo member, as head of the commission.
The 12th PCC, Politburo and Secretariat debuted at the congress. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on behalf of the PCC and Politburo addressed the congress.
Comrade Tran Quoc Vuong on behalf of the congress' Secretariat delivered the congress' resolution and the congress approved the resolution.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a speech to conclude the congress, stating that the congress was a great success.
After the closing ceremony, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong joined a press conference at the congress' press centre.
Answering questions of local and international reporters on how he felt when being trusted and re-elected as the Party General Secretary, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that he was surprised with the congress' high consensus on electing him despite his old age. He said he was moved by the numerous congratulations sent to him from his compatriots during the congress. The Party leader also expressed his concern with his entrusted tasks and the various challenges ahead.
He said that democracy was promoted in the congress and thanks to thorough preparations and high consensus, the congress elected 200 members to the PCC and 19 members to the Politburo, including three female members and a 1970-born comrade, showing the high consensus of the Party and the congress.
