The Council discussed a report on implementing ethnic group policies in 2013 and a working plan for 2014. Thanks to the Party and State's attention coupled with support from ministries, agencies and localities, many new policies have been issued and implemented effectively, improving the infrastructure and living standards in disadvantaged mountainous regions.
Difficulties and obstacles to the implementation of policies were also tabled, particularly those related to resource and capital allocation.
The suggested working plan for 2014 was passed. The agenda includes ethnic policy orientations for the 2016-2020 period to aid sustainable development among ethnic minority communities and the effective implementation of the Government resolution and directive on ethnic group work.
Accordingly, the Council will work closely with ministries, agencies and localities to realise the Government's 2020 Action Plan on ethnic work and other programmes on infrastructure development, production support, migration and settlement.
The Council suggested that the NA enhance its oversight of programmes and projects related to poverty reduction in ethnic and mountainous areas and that the Government issue effective and practical directions on implementing ethnic policies.
The session is scheduled to last until October 12, after co-ordinating with other agencies to verify draft laws which will be discussed at the NA's sixth session and completing a report on the oversight of vocational training for labourers in rural and ethnic areas.
