Gov't approves Road Transportation Development Master Plan by 2030

This is one of the major goals envisioned in the Road Transportation Development Plan by 2030 and vision to 2050 approved recently by the Government.

By 2050, Viet Nam will have a network of 41 expressways totaling 9,014 kilometers, according to the plan.

Key projects include the Eastern North-South expressway from Lang Son to Cau Mau (2,063 kilometers), Western North-South expressway (1,205 kilometers); 14 expressways in Northern region (2,305 kilometers); 10 in Central region (1,431 kilometers), and Southern region (1,290 kilometers).

Meanwhile, the Government also aims to increase the length of national roads by 5,474 kilometers to 29,795 kilometers and the length of coastal roads to 3,034 kilometers.

Earlier on August 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that good planning will make it possible to design good projects and draw good investors, thus promoting public investment efficiency and boosting socio-economic development while chairing a national conference on planning.

Stressing that planning must go one step ahead of other activities, the PM said that the national, regional, provincial and sectoral planning should be made simultaneously.

He requested ministries, sectors and localities to work closely together and exchange information with each other to ensure best efficiency of the work.

Pham noted that since 2017 when the 14th National Assembly adopted the Planning Law, the Government has issued various resolutions, directives and directions to realise the law. However, the results have yet to meet expectations, he said, asking participants to seek measures to speed up the implementation of the law.
