Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc this morning rang a bell and beat a drum to officially open the Bai Dinh Pagoda Festival in Gia Sinh commune, Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh province.
The opening ceremony also saw the presence of National Assembly Vice Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son, along with thousands of other visitors.
The Deputy PM also attended an incense offering and a bird release rite to pray for a peaceful and happy life.
Bai Dinh Pagoda has a history stretching back over 1,000 years and is now the largest pagoda in Southeast Asia, holding many Vietnam records.
The annual festival runs from the sixth day of the first lunar month to the end of the third lunar month. During the festive days, various genres of ancient arts and local folk arts will be performed to the delight of visitors.
