The project management unit No.2 under the Ministry of Transport on May 12 held a ground-breaking ceremony for Ben Moi bridge, connecting Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces.
Construction of Ben Moi bridge begins
The work is part of a project on upgrading weak bridges and building new bridges on national highways in the first phase, using loans from the Republic of Korean (RoK)'s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).
Attending the ceremony were Secretary of the Nam Dinh Provincial Party Committee Pham Gia Tuc; Chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc; Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho, and leaders of related departments, sectors, and localities of Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho emphasised that in the recent years, thanks to the support of the RoK Government through the DCF, the Ministry of Transport has cooperated with many localities in implementing numerous projects to upgrade and restore road infrastructure, including the upgrade of weak bridges and building of new bridges on national highways.

Ben Moi bridge is the largest among six bridges upgraded and constructed under the project, connecting Nam Dinh's Y Yen district and Ninh Binh's Hoa Lu district.
The bridge has a total length of over 3.2 kilometers, and a width of 8 meters. It has total investment capital of more than 360.7 billion VND (15.6 million USD).
After completion, it will create a route connecting historical relic sites of Tran Temple, Day Pagoda of Nam Dinh province to Trang An complex and Bai Dinh pagoda of Ninh Binh province.
Furthermore, it will provide more space for urban development in the north area of Ninh Binh city and it will contribute to completing the national road system and improving traffic congestion.
Tho hoped that Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh authorities will continue to pay attention to completing land clearance, supplying enough materials for the project, and ensuring social order and security and traffic safety at the construction site.
He also asked the project management unit, consulting units and contractors to promptly finalise suitable construction plans, and mobilise human resources and equipment to carry out the project, and ensure its quality, progress, safety and environmental sanitation.
Representatives of the contractors pledged to focus all resources to implemement the project, and ensure the quality and progress as scheduled, then putting the project into operation soon.
