The event is within the framework of the 2014 United Nations Day of Vesak (Buddha's Birth, Enlightenment and Passing Away), which officially opened at the Bai Dinh Temple on May 8 and will last until May 11.
Participants agreed that in past years, Buddhism has taught its followers how to forgive and support others in difficult circumstances, contributing to the reduction of poverty and social evils.
Speaking at the workshop, Thich Thanh Nhieu, permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha's Executive Council, said that it was necessary to eliminate poverty and illiteracy in the country and boost social justice.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining peace in society and in the life of each citizen, saying that this would help achieve the United Nations MDG target.
