Ninh Binh boasts an abundant ecosystem with mangrove forests, stiff limestone mountain ranges, and rivers. These have created breathtaking landscapes, attracting different species of birds to habitat.
Bird's wings adorn nature beauty of Ninh Binh
Bui Duc Tien, an ornithologist who is also a photographer, has taken thousands of photos of bird species in Vietnam.
Following photos are about dozens of rare birds captured in some destinations in Ninh Binh province.
1. The bar-bellied pitta (Hydrornis elliotii) is a bird species in the family Pittidae. It has a very short tail and a stout, slightly curved bill. Its natural habitat is seasonal tropical forest.
2. The black-winged stilt (Himantopus himantopus) is characterised by its extremely long, red legs, white stomach and, true to its name, jet-black wings. 3. Rufous hummingbird (Crimson sunbird is a species belonging to the family of sunbirds. It can reach a size around 11 centimeters. It feeds on nectar from flowers, and tiny insects as well. 4. The Japanese robin (Larvivora akahige, is a migrant bird species. It is seldom seen in Ninh Binh.
5. Pluvialis squatarola, a migratory shorebird.6. The grey-headed lapwing (Vanellus cinereus) is a lapwing species which usually lives in northeast China. It has a grey further, yellow bill and legs. They often migrate in winter.7. Serilophus lunatus is a species of bird in the broadbill family, Eurylaimidae. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.8. Niltava davidi is a small, colorful bird native to southeastern China. They are migratory birds and mainly founded in the North of Vietnam in winter.9. Ardea modesta (Great Egret) is a moderately large bird (83-103cm in length, 700-1200g in weight) with white plumage, a black or yellow bill and long reddish and black legs. The colours of the bare parts change during the breeding season.10. Collared scops-owl (Otus bakkamoena) is a common bird in the Vietnam. It has eyesight and acute hearing, with harp talons that are ideal for catching prey, silently stalking its prey before swooping in for the kill with remarkable precision. 11. Silver pheasant (Lophura nycthemera) is a rare bird in Vietnam, and lives mainly deep in the forest.12. The Vietnam partridge, Annam partridge, or Annam hill partridge (Tropicoperdix chloropus merlini) is now usually considered a subspecies of the green-legged partridge in the family Phasianidae of birds. It is endemic to Vietnam in the dense moist lowland forests of central Annam.
The appearance of diverse species of birds in the province has proved the endless effort of Ninh Binh in protecting the environment and biodiversity over the past few years.
We need to join hand to build Ninh Binh as an attractive destination and a paradise for species of birds to habitat.
